THERE were some MPCA Provincial teams who would have preferred to stay on holidays following their lacklustre performances on Saturday.
In the worst performance for round seven, Mornington failed to hit triple figures against Mt Martha, bowled out for 99. Somerville's luck didn't change over the break, bowled out for 134 against Peninsula Old Boys and the boys at Sorrento were also ordinary with the bat, bundled out for 138 against Frankston YCW. Moorooduc scored a modest 170 against Long Island and Ballam Park set Crib Point 182 for victory.
The one team that clearly came out of its 'holiday spirit' was Baxter, whacking 9-336 against Heatherhill, Timmy Scales scoring a superb 128, supported by Jett Sutton (49), Daniel Warwick (48) and Shane McComb (42). Scales innings included 16 fours and six sixes.
The pick of the Hills bowlers was clearly Mark Fisher with seven wickets.
Crib Point hasn't started its chase well against Ballam Park, ending play at 2-27, chasing 181. Nick Gurry, batting at nine, top scored for the Knights with an unbeaten 39, and Michael Chaplin scored 37.
The Pies' Luke Herrington bowled overs and finished with 4-64 while Brad Davidson snared 2-8.
A top order and tail collapse restricted Moorooduc to an average score against Long Island. Only Joey Lane (57) batting at four and Joel Malcolm (47) at five added significantly to the total. Seven of the 11 batsmen failed to get into double figures.
Paul Hartle was clearly the best of the bowlers with 4-30 from 19 overs, while Justin Bridgeman snared 3-30 from 12. Greg Lamb was superb also with 2-48 from 22 overs.
In reply, Long Island is 0-12.
It was party time at Ferraro Reserve for the home team Mt Martha against Mornington.
All the Reds' bowlers got among the action, Rhys Whitling the pick with 3-29 from 16.4 overs.
Tim Bateman, David Sands and under-17 Jordan Pomeroy, in his second senior match, picked up two wickets each.
Jason Mathers with 26 was the best of the Mornington batsmen.
Peninsula Old Boys will resume on 2-51 after bowling out Somerville for 134.
Mal Coutts was the best of the Eagles' bats with 26 and Craig Black was next best with 24.
Dylan O'Malley and Brad Glenn were the pick of the Old Boys' bowlers with four wickets each.
Paul Waterhouse snagged 6-36 from 17 overs and Craig Burch got 4-46 to help YCW bowl out Sorrento for 138 in 61 overs.
Mark Dunball with 49 was the highest-scoring Sorra, and Sam Wills helped himself to 37. In reply, the Stonecats are 2-27.
