Blues back in race for finals

HASTINGS has given itself a real shot at a finals berth by picking up an outright win against Main Ridge on Saturday in MPCA District cricket.

All things looked lost for the Blues a few weeks ago, but they put themselves back in contention with a 20-point performance.

The Blues hit 5-307 on the first day and Main Ridge, 2-21 at the close of play, was dismissed for 158 on Saturday. Isuru Dias took 4-43 and Chris Pereira 3-21.

Their bowlers also cleaned up in the second innings, Juvaunie Gayle backing up his 108 not out with 3-7 in the second innings, taking his tally to 6-37 for the match. The Ridge was bowled out for 103.

Balnarring had a fair dinkum crack at Carrum's 5-393 but fell 80 short, bowled out for 314.

Toby Murphy top-scored with 76 and Brent Murdoch made 67.

Daniel Graves with 5-71 was the pick of the bowlers and Omar Ak grabbed 4-65.

Rye stayed on top of the table with a comfortable victory against Boneo.

Chasing 93, Rye finished on 8-324, Steven Gale striking 92 and Andrew Hitchener 63.

Leigh Janssen (5-117) was the best of Boneo's bowlers.

Delacombe Park hung on to fourth place after beating Langwarrin. Resuming on 1-64 chasing 154 for victory, the Parkers cruised to victory, finishing on 9-210. Jamie Guthrie was superb with an unbeaten 100 and an injured Nick Christides scored 30 off less than five overs. Ben Wells was the pick of the Langy bowlers with 4-74. Pines scored 248 against Red Hill, falling 112 short. Ashley Hupe top-scored with 79 and Bruce Sutton made 43. Felix McKillop was the best of the Hillmen bowlers with 3-54 and Jamie McCall also claimed three wickets.

Mt Eliza smashed Seaford, winning by more than 100 runs.

The visitors were bowled out for 138 in week one and the Mounties resumed on 2-41. Keith Burdett top-scored for the Mounties with 68 and helped his side to 242 and to stay second.
