A 44-YEAR-old Edithvale man has been charged with attempted murder following an attack on a woman in Mt Eliza last week.
Police said the 37-year-old woman received "serious but not life-threatening" wounds when she was stabbed in the head with a spanner at her home in Mt Eliza Way about 8.10am on Friday.
She was taken by helicopter to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and police mounted a hunt for her attacker, who fled in the victim's car.
About 5pm on Friday, the man was apprehended by New South Wales police in Moama on an unconnected matter and was taken to a hospital in Echuca, where Mornington police charged him late on Friday night.
In addition to attempted murder, he is charged with intentionally causing serious injury, recklessly causing serious injury, assault with a weapon and theft of a motor car.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court in June.
