THERE is no shortage of open gardens in spring, but a group of Mt Eliza and Tyabb green thumbs is offering something different this weekend.
Garden enthusiasts can choose from five private gardens open to visitors on Saturday and Sunday.
Entry to one garden is $5, while a $15 ticket gains entry to all five and is valid for both days.
Carolyn Such, whose garden at 50 Old Mornington Road in Mt Eliza will be open, said the group had aimed for a diverse selection of gardens, from a suburban house block near a busy road to a secluded property on acreage.
The gardeners will be on hand to offer insight into how they maintain their patch of paradise.
"There are strategies for survival in hot weather, and after this last summer any innovative method of saving plants is worth investigating," Ms Such said.
The other gardens are at 1 Allfrey Court, Mt Eliza; 75 Shotton Road, Mt Eliza; 6 Heron Street, Mt Eliza; and 313 Coolart Road, Tyabb. They will be open from 11am-5pm both days.
All proceeds will go to St James the Less Anglican church in Mt Eliza. Details: 9775 3301.
