Chopper plan grounded

11 Mar, 2010 12:24 PM
NAUGHTON Transport Services of Rosebud has withdrawn its application for two helicopter landing sites and a hangar behind Bunnings in the light industrial area of Rosebud West.

Naughton applied for a permit in mid-December to build in Merino Street, west of Boneo Road.

The application stirred up anti-helicopter sentiment among Rosebud and peninsula residents with Friends of Chinamans Creek president Norm McKinlay leading the objectors.

Mr McKinlay said it was good news the plan had been withdrawn.

‘‘It’s case closed forever, we hope. The birds in the [nearby] Tootgarook swamp and a lot of people on the peninsula — including the many people and groups who lodged objections with the council — will be happy with the news.’’

The Naughton application, made by Mornington-based property development consultant Watsons, was the latest episode in the long-running issue of helicopters landing on the peninsula.
